Most people try to finish Shirdi in one exhausting day. Two days costs a little more and changes the experience completely.
Shirdi is about 185 km from Pune and 240 km from Mumbai. Both are doable in a day, and both leave you with about forty minutes of actual temple time after six hours in a car.
Why two days works better
Arriving in the afternoon, taking darshan without watching the clock, seeing Dwarkamai and Chavadi properly in the evening, and attending the kakad aarti the next morning — that is a different visit altogether.
Suggested itinerary
Day 1: leave by 6 am, reach Shirdi around 10 am, check in, afternoon darshan, evening at Dwarkamai, Gurusthan and Chavadi.
Day 2: early kakad aarti if you can manage it, breakfast, then Shani Shingnapur on the way back — it is roughly 70 km from Shirdi and adds under two hours to your return.
Practical notes
Darshan queues are longest on Thursdays, Sundays and during Guru Purnima and Ram Navami. Mobile phones and cameras are not allowed inside the sanctum, and lockers are available near the entrance. Ask your driver to drop you at the donor gate side, where parking is easier.
